THE END OF A SAD SEASON

Regularly on the final podium or fighting for the title, Jean-Karl Vernay has lived a season without, like the last meeting of the FIA ETCR 2022.

Between a car that was one step below the competition, punctures, mechanical breakdowns, questionable strategy and other problems, the season of the Lyonnais was not a long quiet river. When the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR came back into the game after a constant progression, it was bad luck that got involved.

Jay-Kay” did not hesitate to put himself and his teammates first, helping Hyundai Motorsport to a second place finish in the FIA ETCR – eTouring Car World Cup Manufacturers’ standings.

For the rest, the DE Race at the Sachsenring was a reflection of the season. After struggling in qualifying, Jean-Karl helped secure a one-two finish for the team alongside Nicky Catsburg in the quarterfinals. Combative as always, he battled at the front for a long time before finishing fifth in semi-final 2.

“The DE race was like the year in general, very hard from start to finish,” concluded Jean-Karl, “It’s a regret because after qualifying the car was really good and I enjoyed racing here. The ETCR season is over but it’s not impossible that I do one or two freelances in WTCR to help the team.”
