FIA ETCR 2022: HERE WE GO!

The season has started and it's on the Pau circuit that it's happening! The team has been working hard since the 2021 final to improve the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR package in order to fight for the first King of the Weekend title of the year.

Four drivers will represent Hyundai Motorsport this weekend (6-8 May): Jean-Karl Vernay, Mikel Azcona, Norbert Michelisz and Kevin Ceccon, and with the rest of the field, it’s a very strong field that will be battling it out on this urban circuit.

The FIA ETCR will keep its race format with a draw at the start that will divide the twelve drivers into two groups for the weekend. After the two free practice sessions on Friday, each group will tackle the qualifying sessions which will determine the quarter finals to try to gain the most favourable place for the two semi-finals.

The results of the semi-finals determine the grid positions for each group’s super final, the last opportunity to gain valuable points. The driver with the most points will be crowned King of the weekend.

After a long break punctuated by a few days of testing, Jean-Karl Vernay is impatient to get back to the flavour of the race: “This year, we will be racing on the urban circuit, a circuit that I know well having raced there in single-seaters and in the Porsche Cup. Looking at our rivals, I think the level of competition is going to be very high and consistent this year, so there will be no time to rest on our laurels. We have made some big improvements to the car compared to last year and we are ready for this first race. My concentration is total and I am aiming for victory”.
