PURE ETCR - Copenhagen - 06-08/08/2021 - The third round of the PURE ETCR, which took place on the Copenhagen city circuit, proved difficult for Jean-Karl Vernay and Hyundai Motorsport. Vernay and his Hyundai Veloster N ETCR led his group in Saturday's races, but failed to follow up in the Super Final.
Vernay started in the middle of the grid in the first race and took the lead before the first corner. He followed this up with a second win in the second heat.
His performance started to decline in the time trial of the third heat. Leader of his group, “Jay-Kay” was the first to set a time. On a dirty track, and with conditions improving for the following riders, his lap was just enough to secure fourth place on the Super Final grid. Then, from the second row, he moved up to third place at the start of the Super Final but could not do better on a track where overtaking possibilities are very limited.
In the championship standings, the driver of the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR remains in second place ahead of the last two rounds of the season.
“Saturday started well”, said the Frenchman. “I won both Battle Rounds for the first time. We all had high hopes for Sunday, but unfortunately the day started badly. Some problems at the start spoiled our day and I lost the lead. When you start the last lap in fourth position, it’s impossible to do anything special. At least we were able to finish the race in third and as Mattias Ekström didn’t win, we only lost a few points in the fight for the championship lead.”
