PURE ETCR: VERNAY IN CONTACT

PURE ETCR - Aragón - 10-11/07/2021 • Hyundai Motorsport had another successful weekend in the PURE ETCR, taking further victories in the second round at MotorLand Aragón.

Jean-Karl Vernay, along with Augusto Farfus, John Filippi and Tom Chilton, each led the standings in one of their races with the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR. The team remains second in the manufacturers’ standings, just 41 points behind the leader.

The Frenchman finished second in the first round, but was unable to start the next round on Saturday due to a broken driveshaft. The problem was quickly solved, however, and Vernay took pole position in the Super Final B with an impressive time. But in the race, a great start was not enough and he finished second in the new round.

The team retained second place in the Manufacturers’ standings, scoring 124 points in total, and Vernay is second in the Drivers’ standings.

Competing in both PURE ETCR and WRC for the first time this season, Jean-Karl Vernay had a busy weekend! “It was mentally intense. I don’t remember such an intense day! We didn’t start well, but we finished very well. The first day was tiring because I alternated between the PURE ETCR and WTCR cars; lots of meetings and lots of laps in two totally different cars. In the end, I got my first PURE ETCR pole position in round 3, and I was really happy with the lap I was able to achieve. We’re starting to close the gap to the championship lead; overall, it could have been better, but we can be satisfied that we’re moving in the right direction.”
