Jean-Karl Vernay still leader

FIA WTCR - Race of Spain - 09-11/04/2021 • The Frenchman collected precious points on the MotorLand Aragón circuit during the third round of the WTCR season. Thus, he came back from Spain keeping the place which is his since the beginning of the season: that of the leader.

The Engstler Hyundai N Liqui Moly Racing Team driver set good times on Saturday and made it to the final round of qualifying, qualifying in fifth place. A penalty dropped him to ninth on the grid in Race 1, but he stayed out of trouble to finish in that same position.

In Race 2, the Frenchman made a good start from fifth and gained a place on lap six to cross the checkered flag at the foot of the podium.

In the end, Jean-Karl Vernay slightly increased his lead in the driver’s championship from 5 to 5 points.

“After our weekend in Aragón, I’m still leading the championship, which is a great result” said Jay-Kay. “After an uneventful Race 1, I got a good start in Race 2 and fought hard on track to take 4th place and keep it. It was hard to make a move on the cars in front as they were slightly faster than us. It was a good weekend for points, and that’s the most important thing. I think we can be satisfied.”
